Now these two know how to party! Caroline + Katie’s Lacuna Lofts wedding was definitely one of my favorite celebrations of the year.
“We met in 2017 on a dating app,” they told me. “While it didn’t work out the first time, thank goodness the app-verse knew more than we did. Because in true millennial/gen-z fashion, we re-met in 2018 on a different dating app! The second swipe around stuck, and we’ve been falling in love every day, ever since. In the fall of 2020, despite having been stuck inside a small apartment together 24/7 (thanks, Covid), we decided to spend even more time with one another, each asking the other to spend our lives together. Katie planned a beautiful and thoughtful proposal, asking Caroline to marry her at one of our favorite Chicago locations, the Garfield Park Conservatory outdoor garden. Using a crossword puzzle a week later and wanting to surprise Katie, Caroline patiently waited until Katie was eating rice cakes in bed to propose.”
The couple got ready together in a room at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel. They still wanted to do a first look, so Katie and her wedding party finished getting dressed in another room. After we coordinated a spot near the lobby for them to see each other, we brought them down to photograph the big moment. UGH these two are the CUTEST! From there, we hopped on the transportation and took photos in Grant Park before heading over to their venue.
Caroline + Katie had a magical ceremony on the Lacuna Lofts rooftop (despite the chuppah almost taking an unplanned dive off the side!). Their good friend Carter officiated as guests listened to readings from family and vows from the brides. With the classic Chicago skyline behind them, Caroline + Katie stomped on the glass, kissed, and walked back up the aisle to a roaring applause from the audience!
Everyone filed downstairs for cocktail hour as the couple took a few minutes to themselves. I took them back out to the roof for some GORGEOUS golden hour photos (I mean, seriously, LOOK at those portraits!). The two then greeted their guests before everyone sat for dinner. Once the hamotzi and the kiddush were said (Jewish prayers over the bread + wine), Caroline + Katie cut their cake and said their thank you’s. After a few more speeches and a first dance from the newlyweds, everyone joined in for the hora! If you haven’t been to a Jewish wedding, it’s one of the best parts of the whole day.
Oh man. This was a day to remember. This Lacuna Lofts wedding was the ULTIMATE party from start to finish. If you want to be even MORE jealous of them, the two honeymooned in Italy a few months later. They’re living the dream!
