Y’all KNOW I love a City Hall wedding! Micah + Simon’s big day was definitely no exception to my adoration for intimate celebrations of love. It was a hot one, but we definitely powered through!
Our day started early on a *toasty* Saturday in August. Micah + Simon were the first ones in a long line filled with other couples waiting to make their union legal. Although you have to make an appointment ahead of time, they chose to take no chances when it came to getting everything sorted + settled for their marriage. We were told where to go and what signs to follow in order to be in the right room. After a $10 cash payment and some quick “I do’s,” it was done! Unfortunately the current precautions in place prevent folks from taking off masks, so we made a plan for them to save their kiss until the right moment. Once they were next to the “City Hall” sign on Randolph, the newlyweds shared their first kiss as a married couple.
One of the best parts about being downtown on a Saturday morning before 10 am is dealing with fewer people! We took advantage of the empty streets that are normally busy + bustling with the 9-5 folks. From the Riverwalk over to the LaSalle Street bridge, we played around in the morning sun. Our journey VERY COINCIDENTALLY (I promise this wasn’t on purpose) took us to the front of Prime & Provisions Steakhouse. It was at this very restaurant just months before, where Simon popped the big question! I honestly couldn’t have planned it better. With their City Hall wedding ceremony + portraits completed, we took our planned intermission for the day.
Later in the evening I met up with the couple for their reception at their all-time favorite weekend night hang, Kirkwood Bar & Grill. After some family photos, Simon performed the breaking-of-the-glass ceremony in the middle of Oakdale Ave. All of the guests shouted, “L’CHAIM!” as the couple kissed once again. Once they cut their gorgeous cake, Micah + Simon spent the rest of the evening mingling with their guests in the private area they had rented at the bar. They had told me about how living around the corner from Kirkwood made the spot a place which they frequented quite often. To others it may just seem like any other Lakeview joint to down a couple of beers, but to these folks it felt like home. It was the perfect place for them to end their day after having a City Hall wedding.
These guys are a super cute couple. I can’t wait to see what’s next for them! :)
