Heather + Tim had the DREAMIEST day for their Quadrangle Club Wedding! Labor Day weekend is always a popular time to get married, and these two definitely didn’t disappoint.
“We always say we met in college,” Heather told me. “Which is true… but confuses the heck out of people when they realize that we didn’t actually go to the same school! Barely a few weeks into freshman year, Tim happened to be heading up to NYC with some other Princeton students. While he was in town, he decided to stop by Columbia and visit his friend from high school, who just happened to be my roommate. Soon enough, Tim kept coming up with more and more unbelievable excuses to ‘happen to be’ in NYC. He FINALLY asked if I would want to visit him on his campus (which, of course, I very much did). After a night of dancing and a romantic evening on a rooftop under the stars, he asked me to be his girlfriend!
“At first, I feared the distance would be too unmanageable for two freshman to handle. I actually ended things for tiny amount of time, but I quickly realized my mistake and rectified the relationship. The rest of college passed in a memorable, chaotic swirl for us. Through bonding over our shared nerdy interests, bonds forged in late-night study sessions, we grew together as a couple. Our relationship truly only strengthened over the following four years. After college, I got an offer for graduate school in Neurobiology at the University of Chicago. Soon after, Tim received an offer to work as a Quantitative Analyst in the West Loop. We were so excited to finally put down roots and move in together.
“Once in Chicago Tim and I quickly settled in, making new friends and exploring their new city. When the pandemic hit we realized that even stuck in a one bedroom apartment together in a crisis, we still loved being with each other more than anyone else. A new condo and a rescue dog later, we realized that life would always be better together than apart, and got engaged on March 14th (pi day!), 2021! We can’t wait for our forever with each other.”
The couple got ready in separate rooms at the Quadrangle Club. Heather– one of the most organized people I have ever met in my LIFE– had every step of the day nailed down. She had picked out every single spot for photos, so I let her lead the way. This was definitely helpful, as Heather is far more familiar with the University of Chicago campus! The two had their first look on a small bridge, followed by portraits with their dog Emmy and wedding party photos around campus. We arrived back in time for the couple to hide away in the Quadrangle Club as guests arrived.
Heather + Tim were married by their good friend Deepti. Before the processional, she made explicit instructions for folks to stay off their phones during the ceremony. This was the very first wedding I have photographed where every single guest complied– I’m sure they knew that Heather would have literally stopped the ceremony if someone pulled out their phone for a photo! After the two listened to readings, exchanged beautiful vows, and finally kissed, they walked back up the aisle and straight out to the sidewalk. We took a few portraits as the couple relished their first few minutes as newlyweds.
Once cocktail hour winded down, we all entered the dining room for dinner. We listened to some really wonderful speeches from family + friends as guests enjoyed their meal. Heather + Tim then showed off their incredible dancing skills with a rehearsed choreographed number! The DJ put on the couple’s favorite songs and packed the dance floor until the very end of the party.
I truly feel so lucky to have photographed this incredible Quadrangle Club Wedding! Heather and Tim have the BEST group of friends and I can’t wait to see what life brings them. xx
