Jena + Nick’s Sleeping Village wedding was one of my most intentional days I have ever been a part of. Everything the couple chose was all about them.
When I asked Jena about their love story, she gave me such a great one liner: “Met on the world wide web, fell in love on the phone.” Classic millennial. If you’ve ever hired me and checked out my recommended vendors list, you’ll see Gold Noise at the top of my DJ list. This isn’t just because the company is owned and operated by the bride. Jena is one of the kindest, most down-to-earth people I have ever met. Not only does she bring the PARTY when she’s working weddings, but she also DJs at Beauty Bar among other venues. I love working with her and getting the privilege of being her friend. Jena is the definition of cool.
So when Jena and Nick got engaged, they knew their own wedding would be their own vibe. The couple chose to get married at Sleeping Village, a well-known bar and music venue in Avondale. Their brief ceremony concluded with a group photo of everyone in attendance. A handful of other friends arrived soon after to party with the newlyweds. Jena hired a magician to come and do some close up magic for guests. The playlist, of course, was impeccable. Jena and her dad even a shot of Malört together! Pizza Lobo and Pequod’s got delivered soon after that. With pizzas in one hand and a beer in the other, everyone got together to listen to a few speeches. The newlyweds hit the dance floor for their first dance before partying the night away with friends.
I am absolutely biased because I know Jena personally, but this wedding was so special. A note for anyone who is planning their own wedding: Do you. Screw the rules. Throw a huge party for you and your friends if that’s what you want. Because it doesn’t matter how fancy the venue + food are. Sometimes all you need is beer, a bar, a ton of pizza, and 80 of your closest friends.
