MacKenzie + Josh chose to have their wedding at Homestead on the Roof because of the intimate space, great food, and because it’s in the heart of a neighborhood that means so much to them.

Their Story

MacKenzie and Josh matched on Hinge. After a good opening line by Josh they agreed to meet for drinks. MacKenzie cancelled on Josh once (maybe twice) and nearly didn’t show-up for their first date (we owe a lot to friends Dan & Rob). They had drinks at Estero and three months later took a trip to Japan together! Since their first date they’ve gone to five countries together, won countless trivia nights, moved in, bought a condo, and are now co-pet parents to their cats, Jet + Milo, and their dog, Bennet!

Getting Ready, First Look + Portraits

While Josh got ready with some friends at an Airbnb, MacKenzie prepped for the day at their condo in Bucktown. I love it when couples get ready at home– the photos always feel more personal. And I got to meet their sweet kitties! With the help of MacKenzie’s mom, sister, and close friend, the bride was able to get ready for her first look across the street. I ran out first to position Josh, then got to capture the sweet moment they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day! The rest of the wedding party joined us soon after for portraits before we went over to the venue.

Homestead on the Roof Wedding

It was one of those days that had all of Chicago outside. The beautiful 75 degree weather welcomed guests as they made their way upstairs for the ceremony. MacKenzie + Josh read personal vows in front of friends + family, then made their marriage official with a kiss and a roaring applause. Cocktail hour was enjoyed on the same rooftop deck, followed by speeches from the bride’s sister and the groom’s close friend. Dinner was held inside, and afterwards everyone made their way back on the deck for dancing. The newlyweds enjoyed dessert before taking a shot of Malört with their friends. This type of alcohol has a *very* distinct flavor and aftertaste… and if you know, you KNOW.

This wedding at Homestead on the Roof was the perfect end to summer. I loved spending the day with these two and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them!
