Alli + Mar knew they wanted to have a wedding at the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool right when they started wedding planning.
Alli and Mar’s modern love story began the way so many did in 2017: on a dating app. Their first date concluded with a decidedly platonic handshake that put Mar firmly in the friend zone. But dumplings changed everything. A few weeks later Alli (new to Chicago and without anyone to accompany her to World Dumpling Fest) took Mar up on his offer of friendship. What followed was an all day impromptu city adventure. This included a serendipitous stop at what would be their future ceremony location, the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pond. It was then Alli realized her mistake, and the rest is history. Today, they share a life with their dog Lu, a passion for rock climbing, spirited game nights, and a remarkably consistent Duolingo streak. Their story, a testament to romance’s delightful detours, proves that sometimes friendship is simply the most charming of prequels.
Surrounded by her mom, sisters, and close friends, Alli got ready for the day in the apartment above the Lytle House. We then drove over to the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool just north of the Lincoln Park Zoo. Mar was waiting for us there so we could do their first look. After a few portraits and family photos, we set up for the ceremony. The couple was married by Alli’s two sisters in front of 15 of their nearest and dearest. After personal vows, the wedding ceremony concluded with a shower of bubbles. We left the Lily Pool and spent some time at Alli + Mar’s apartment in Ravenswood. The newlyweds took their dog Lu on a walk so they could get some photos with him in their wedding day outfits!
The rest of the guests met us at the Lytle House for cocktail hour. Everyone was able to hug Alli + Mar while enjoying passed appetizers and drinks. The couple serenaded their friends + family with a song before everyone sat for dinner. I’ve never actually seen poke and pizza together as a meal, but honestly the combination was so tasty. Alli + Mar had their first dance to “I Love You Always Forever” by Donna Lewis to open up the dance floor. Large paper cutouts of Lu’s head were passed around while folks played Jenga and ate from the small dessert cups.
Everything about this wedding was created in a thoughtful and loving way. I am so honored to have been a part of it!
