We love a winter wedding at the Union League Club Chicago! Abbie + Jake put together a special weekend in December to celebrate their marriage.

Their Story

“Our story began in 2018 when we were set up on a blind date at The VIG by a mutual friend. We quickly realized how many interests and values we shared. One thing stood out in particular, our love for live music. It wasn’t long before we met each other’s family and friends. It was seamless, as we both fell in love with not only each other but with the people who helped us become who we are today!

We soon embarked on adventures together visiting New York City, South Carolina, California and of course the all glorious Southwest Michigan. After many trips, experiences, concerts and long walks we decided to move in together in the Spring of 2020. During this time our love for each other only grew and we soon welcomed a new member into our family. We adopted our loving cat, Sheffield, in the Spring of 2021. Fast forward a year and Jake proposed on DePaul’s quad during an early morning walk!”

Union League Club Chicago Wedding

Unlike traditional weddings, Abbie + Jake decided to hold a small ceremony with their immediate families the day before their big celebration. Once they were officially married, we took a few family photos followed by some portraits around Union League Club.

Portraits + Cocktail Hour

The next day, the newlyweds got ready separately before their big reception. Abbie got dressed with her girls downtown while Jake and his friends were at their apartment. The two had their first look next to the River Walk before heading over to the Board of Trade building and Union Station for portraits with their wedding party. Once we arrived at Union League Club, Abbie had a first look with her dad. After some extended family photos on the staircase, the couple took a second to prep for their cocktail hour.

Reception + Dancing

Dinner was served after Abbie + Jake cut their cake.  We heard a few speeches throughout dinner. One of the most memorable came from Abbie’s dad: he pretended to chug a handle of Jack Daniel’s, but turns out it was just iced tea! My jaw was on the ground. It was definitely original! The couple then shared a first dance to “I’m On Your Side” by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. After they danced with their parents, the dance floor opened. Jake’s family is Jewish, so everyone danced the Hora while Jake + Abbie were lifted in chairs. Cake was served table side as the couple and their guests rocked out on the dance floor for the rest of the night!
