Sarah + Drew’s Chicago engagement session at Promontory Point took place on one of those magical June evenings where the weather was literally PERFECT. A mild 75 degrees with a slight breeze made our time together ideal in every way.
While Sarah and Drew attended the same college for four years, they didn’t actually meet until mutual friends introduced them at a bar in Nashville over Fall Break their senior year. They became inseparable soon after their return from Nashville, and started dating before Christmas Break. After graduation, Sarah and Drew decided to try and make long distance work. Drew moved to Minneapolis to start a job in accounting and Sarah moved back home to Chicago for a year of service. After a year of long-distance dating, Sarah moved up to Minneapolis for graduate school at the University of Minnesota.
During those two years, Sarah and Drew spent endless days hiking, visiting local breweries, and planning over-the-top quarantine date nights. Like many couples, they also adopted a Covid-dog named Teddy that they adore. After Sarah’s graduation from the U, the trio moved down to Chicago and have lived there ever since.
Every summer, Sarah, Drew, and Teddy spend a week back up in Minneapolis visiting all of their favorite places they used to frequent in the City. On July 8th, 2022, after a week of visiting some old spots, Drew proposed to Sarah at the park where they walked Teddy every morning and night in Minneapolis, over a picnic with their favorite burger and beer in town. Drew got her to turn around and look away by shouting that there was a bald eagle up in a tree along the river (a common sight, apparently) while a surprise photographer got into position. Before Drew could even ask the question, Sarah said “yes, yes, oh my gosh yes!” Drew and Sarah spent the next two hours (thank goodness for very late sunsets in Minneapolis) FaceTiming all of their family and friends to deliver the exciting news!
We started off taking photos around the Bobolink Meadow in Jackson Park. After making our way behind the Museum of Science + Industry, we eventually walked over to Promontory Point. By then it definitely got a little breezy! But I LOVED the way the wind carried Sarah’s skirt and ruffled her hair. We grabbed the very special champagne bottle (that was painted by a friend of theirs) to do a little spray before the sun fully set. Sarah + Drew then poured themselves a glass and finished off the bottle while waves crashed around them.
I can’t WAIT to photograph these two tying the knot next year. We had so much fun at this session and I can’t wait to have so much more at their wedding! :)
