When I was first contacted by Emma + Mark with an inquiry about photographing them after their Chicago City Hall wedding ceremony, all I could think about was how sad it was that another couple was forced to change their wedding arrangements because of the pandemic. When I asked them if they had to postpone any grand celebrations, Emma smiled at me and said “Nope! Not at all!” Turns out these two had planned to have a small ceremony straight from the get-go and City Hall was the perfect place to tie the knot. I was beaming!
I absolutely adore these kinds of weddings. While I specialize in large-scale events, there is a special place in my heart for those who know that marriage is first and foremost about love. You don’t need 14 bridesmaids, pounds of makeup, a 10 ft. train or your newly-single aunt Linda ogling your friend from college on the dance floor in order to have a wedding. Maybe there’s a white dress, a sharp suit or even a gorgeous bouquet. But these two definitely knew that all you truly need are the words, “I do.”
I cannot write this blog post without commending Emma + Mark on posing for some amazing photos while dealing with the 95 degree heat and 100% humidity. Oh, and did I mention that it rained for a bit, too? They were absolute TROOPERS the whole time! We started off by taking some portraits and group shots with their friends Ella and Spencer over at the Chicago City Hall and the Riverwalk, followed by a stroll through the loop and finally over to the Art Institute’s South Garden. These guys were willing to do it all and THIS photographer was definitely grateful. And how cute are those bride + groom masks?? Although it wasn’t their idea (thanks Emma’s mom!) I thought it was a charming addition to their big day.
Congratulations again to Mark + Emma! These two are wildly intelligent, caring, and full of deep love for each other. I feel s lucky that I got to photograph their Chicago City Hall Wedding. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for them as a couple. Mazel Tov!
